The Lamentations Of Aisha Buhari

There is perhaps no other Nigerian who currently feels as much disappointed and frustrated about the goings on in the present scheme of things in the country as the wife of our President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari.

Since about two years ago, Aisha Buhari has been openly complaining that things were not going on well with the APC administration which she helped put in place in 2015, lamenting that her husband has been caged by some powerful elements who has highjacked his government, thus rendering him impotent and ineffective.

On October 16, 2016, Mrs. Buhari in a BBC interview lamented that her husband was being held hostage by a cabal, claiming that the President did not know up to one percent of those running his government.

Hear her: “The President does not know 45 out of 50, for example, of the people he appointed, and I don’t know them either despite being his wife for 27 years. Some people are sitting down in their homes folding their arms only for them to be called to come and head an agency or ministerial position”, she claimed.

Aisha Buhari went to the extent of distancing herself from campaigning for the second term bid of President Muhammadu Buhari, categorically stating that “he is yet to tell me, but I have decided as his wife, that if things continue like this up to 2019, I will not go out and campaign again and ask any woman to vote like I did before. I will never do it again”.

President Buhari however laughed it off, and in the presence of a woman head of state, Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany, he stated that “my wife belongs to the ozza room”.

But that did not stop Aisha Buhari from openly expressing her disgust about the present administration.

On October 9, 2017, Aisha Buhari focused her gaze on the management of Aso Rock Clinic, and dressed it down.

She stated that the clinic did not have necessary facilities to treat patients, and wondered what would be the fate of other hospitals across the country if the clinic at the nose of the government was ill-equipped and ill maintained, stating that she visited a private clinic when she found out that the Aso Rock Clinic’s X-ray machine was not working.

Aisha Buhari was among the vociferous voices heard during the just concluded APC primaries. She was very bitter about the way the primaries were conducted, and in her annoyance lamented that “it is disheartening that some aspirants used their hard-earned money to purchase nomination forms, got screened, cleared and campaigned vigorously, yet found their names omitted on election day. These forms were bought at exorbitant prices.

“Many others contested, yet had their results delayed, fully knowing that automatic ticket had been given to other people”, she stated.

And in her latest outburst, two days ago, Aisha Buhari lamented that “two powerful men” had constituted themselves as a cog in the wheel for the speedy development of the country, insisting that these two powerful men were retrogressive elements preventing the government from moving forward.

Mrs. Buhari who refused to read from an already prepared speech said: “twenty million people voted for my husband, are their lives better off today? Two people are ruling Nigeria. You better go take your country back if you don’t want to get it worse than this”.

Aisha Buhari who did not name these “two powerful men”, stated that she was disappointed in men who rather than fight these two men go to them in the night begging for favour.

Thus, if the closest person to the President, his wife, could be so disenchanted and frustrated with the system, what do you expect from millions of other Nigerians who are no more than mere appendages to the system?

I feel pity seeing some prominent Nigerians who vigorously had campaigned for the entrenchment of the present administration in 2015, now turn 360 degrees against it and plot for its downfall. We have in mind people like former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Atiku Abubakar, Oby Ezekwesili, Charles Soludo, Shehu Sani, and several others.

The only person still standing with the President is Bola Ahmed Tinibu who has set his eyes on 2023, and some Lilliputians, who perhaps, have been hypnotised or who may not know the difference between their left and their right.
