PETER OBI SLAMS TINUBU’S GOVT OVER INHUMAN HANDLING OF CHILD PROTESTERS

PETER OBI SLAMS TINUBU’S GOVT OVER INHUMAN HANDLING OF CHILD PROTESTERS Peter Obi, former presidential candidate, has expressed deep concern over the inhumane treatment of 124 protesters, including minors, who appeared in court on Friday. The young Nigerians were arrested by the federal government for participating in the hunger protests few weeks ago. In a statement shared on social media, Obi decried the disturbing scenes captured in a video that has sparked widespread outrage. “These children appeared visibly malnourished and starved—a condition that should alarm the conscience of every citizen in our nation,” Obi said. Obi criticized the federal government for failing to uphold the dignity and welfare of the minors held in custody. He pointed out that the alleged offence of the detainees was protesting against bad governance, a right guaranteed under Nigeria’s democratic constitution. “Curiously,” he noted, “most of the people in government today leveraged this aspect of the Constitution, standing as champions of good governance while in opposition.” The former governor of Anambra State emphasized that every suspect, regardless of the circumstances, deserves to be treated with dignity. He stressed the importance of human rights and dignity, highlighting Nigeria’s obligations as part of the global community. Obi also praised the presiding judge for halting the trial, thereby averting what he called a further embarrassment for the nation. He urged key authorities, including the Minister of Justice, the Attorney General of the Federation, the Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the National Human Rights Commission, to conduct a thorough investigation into the mistreatment of the detained minors. “The reason why we should all be concerned about a situation like this is because we are part of a global community where human dignity should be respected,” Obi concluded.

WIKE, ATIKU TRADE WORDS: NIGERIANS HAVE REJECTED YOU, GO HOME – WIKE; YOUR COMMENTS STRING OF INANITIES, BASELESS RANTS – ATIKU

WIKE, ATIKU TRADE WORDS: NIGERIANS HAVE REJECTED YOU, GO BACK HOME – WIKE; YOUR COMMENTS STRING OF INANITIES, BASELESS RANTS – ATIKU Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has mocked former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his failure to be president of the country. Wike took a dig at Atiku at a luncheon honouring loyal members of the Rivers State Assembly in Port Harcourt. The development comes after Atiku ridiculed him over the recent local government elections in Rivers State, where the Action Peoples Party (APP) secured 22 out of 23 local government chairmanship posts. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, which is backed by Wike, backed out of the election. In retaliation, Wike said on Saturday, “We never contested local government elections. Did we contest? Did we pick form? I hear Atiku Abubakar say, ‘Oh they have rejected me in Rivers State. Okay, assuming though not conceding, he had lost so many times, Nigerians have also rejected him.” “If you say for an election we did not contest; never participated that shows Nigerians have rejected us, it is okay. You that contested and failed woefully, Nigerians have rejected you, therefore pack and go home.” Reacting through his media adviser, Paul Ibe, Atiku described Wike’s comments as “theatrical outbursts” and “baseless rants” driven by personal grievances. He said that Wike’s actions were a lingering symptom of bitterness from his defeat at the 2022 party presidential primaries. “Mr. Wike’s comments are nothing more than a string of inanities, lacking substance,” the statement said. “If he truly believes Nigerians are content with the current state of affairs under the government he serves, it reveals a deeper truth: his priorities lie not with the people but with himself.” The statement reads in full: Wike and his T-Pain Collaborators playing politics with the suffering of Nigerians*Atiku preoccupied with genuine issues affecting Nigerians Our attention has been drawn to the recent remarks made by Mr. Nyesom Wike, which can only be described as another of his theatrical outbursts. Ordinarily, we would not respond, but we recognize that silence might be misinterpreted. However, we remain calm, knowing that Nigerians are well acquainted with his antics, a lingering symptom of the bitterness he harbours from his defeat to the Wazirin Adamawa at the 2022 party presidential primaries. Mr. Wike’s comments are nothing more than a string of inanities, lacking substance and driven by personal grievances. If he truly believes Nigerians are content with the current state of affairs under the government he serves, it reveals a deeper truth: his priorities lie not with the people but with himself. This self-absorption is evident in his preoccupation with domestic affairs in Rivers rather than his ministerial responsibilities. While he may seek to divert attention with his baseless rants, we remain focused on the genuine issues affecting Nigerians. It is clear that Mr. Wike is more concerned with self-interest than addressing the real challenges faced by the nation. In contrast, our commitment remains unwavering, centred on the welfare and progress of the people. Mr. Wike appears to delight in conjuring fantasies, indulging in his imagination, and paying for live TV coverage to launch tirades against whomever he pleases. However, we shall not descend into the gutters where he feels at home. Instead, we prefer to rise above, maintaining our dignity while others revel in the mud. Wike’s comments came at a luncheon in honour of loyal members of the Rivers State Assembly in Port Harcourt, where he took a dig at Atiku’s failed presidential attempts. This was in response to Atiku’s ridicule of Wike over the recent local government elections in Rivers State, where the Action Peoples Party (APP) secured 22 out of 23 local government chairmanship posts.…
