LABOUR PARTY CALLS FOR REVIEW OF ENUGU GUBER RESULT
The Labour Party Coalition for True Democracy (ECTD), has called the attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to review the Enugu Governorship election result and organized a rerun for the election.
The Labour Party stated that the results of the election were due to some irregularities in the state. It was reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was declared the winner of the election despite the controversies.
The statement was made by the coalition’s President, Ken Asogwa, and the General Secretary, Emeka Nnaji, at a press conference in Abuja, saying that the collation was suspended halfway due to the malpractice that took place in Nkanu East Local Government Area (LGA). Revealing that a total number of 7,190 accredited voters were present on that day of the election in Nkanu East LGA. But when the votes were announced the PDP was given 30,350 votes while the Labour Party was allocated 1,855 votes.
The coalition’s President added that some state constituency election result was not announced because there was violence in 13 polling units. And INEC refused to conduct another election before a return could be made because the voters in those polling units will affect the outcome of the result if the voters are allowed to vote. He said a similar issue happened in Igbo-Eze South LGA where the election results are yet to be announced because of violence in three polling unit.
