A massive fire has destroyed the official residence of the Imo state deputy governor, Eze Madumere, located at the commissioners’ quarters in Owerri, the capital of the state on Thursday, January 19, with properties worth millions of naira destroyed.
Agency report said the fire incident affected an appartment and damaged properties. The incident was confirmed by the chief press secretary to the deputy governor, Uche Onwuchekwa.
The fire is suspected to have been triggered by a burning bush very close to the building. According to Onwuchekwa, the fire later spread to the visitors’ waiting hall razing the entire building and some of the buses parked on the premises as well as other valuable properties.
Apart from the confirmation by the chief press secretary, the report said there is no expert explanation about the remote cause of the fire. Men of the Imo state fire service were reportedly at the scene to put out the fire and prevent it from causing further damage to the premises.
