Mr. Femi Adesina is the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity. But he is presently in competition with Malam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity (duplication of functions), and Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, over who should out-speak, or who should out-lie each other, as far as this government is concerned.
Each time any of them speaks, they take Nigerians to be fools or morons who may not be able to decipher some simple truth from their tissue of lies. And just to please their paymasters and without reading the mood of the nation, they sometimes make some reckless or inflammatory statements capable of setting the country on fire.
Take the recent killing in Plateau State, for example, where over 200 people were brutally murdered by suspected Fulani herdsmen, instead of Femi Adesina being in a sober mood to commiserate with those who lost their dear ones, pray for the quick recovery of the injured and the eternal repose of the dead, what he was busy doing was to begin to compile the list of people killed during the 16 years of PDP administration to compare them with those killed in the three years of the present APC administration.
Femi Adesina’s interest perhaps, is whether the APC administration could compete, rival or surpass the PDP in the number of Nigerians that lost their lives through violent deaths, and not how to seek solution to the senseless killings going on in the country. He is not worried by the Amnesty International’s report that 1,813 Nigerians have lost their lives through herdsmen-farmers clash in just six months, that is, between January and June this year.
For Femi Adesina to begin to compare the number of Nigerians killed under the PDP and APC administrations, as if the two political parties were in competition in recording the number of deaths under their regimes, gives him up as somebody who is callous, conscienceless and insensitive. Human life is sacred and precious. Therefore, wasting of it should not be justified under any guise, whether it is under the PDP or the APC.
Perhaps, Femi Adesina does not know that the main purpose why people elected to surrender their individual rights and gave them to a governmental authority was for the protection of their lives and property, and according to Aristotle, any government that fails to carry out this fundamental task, the people are justified in overthrowing it.
Thus, were Nigeria to be a sane society, both Femi Adesina and the government he represents ought to have thrown in their towel for they have woefully failed to live up to their oath of office of protection of lives and property entrusted into their care.
