ENUGU EAST SENATORIAL DISTRICT CALLS FOR SYSTEMIC GOVERNANCE, PEACE IN ENUGU
Enugu East Senatorial District is holding a mega rally today, Thursday, June 17, 2021, at Michael Okpara Square, Independence Layout, Enugu, organized by the six local government areas in the zone: Enugu North, Enugu East, Enugu South, Isiuzo, Nkanu East and Nkanu West.
The rally with the theme: “OGANIRU ENUGU EAST SENATORIAL ZONE, which is aimed at consolidating on the democratic experience in the state, will feature speeches on good governance, service to humanity, and superior leadership, which Enugu State is known for.
It also aims at unifying all interest groups in Enugu East Senatorial District, to propel them to demand for good governance and sensitize the electorate to participate actively in the forthcoming elections.
According to the organizers, the rally will attract movers and shakers of the state, including past and present local government chairmen and councillors, legislators, political office holders, Royal father’s, the clergy, Town Union leaders, the youths, students, and other stakeholders from the zone.
The special guests of honour at the occasion will be His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwanyi, the Executive Governor Enugu State, Hus Execellency Chief Sen. Dr. Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo, former Governor of old Anambra State, His Execellency Senator Dr. Ken Nnamani GCON former Senate President, Federal Republic of Nigeria as well as His Execellency Sen. Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani, former Governor of Enugu state and Senator Representing Enugu East Senatorial zone in the National Assembly.
This rally will be focused on the yearning of the people of Enugu East to produce the next Governor for the State come 2023, in line with the zoning or rotation of governorship arrangement in Enugu State.
In the political history of Enugu state, the political structure guides the formation of the state, which has been the driving force strengthening the political growth of Enugu state. One dominant factor is the systemized zoning within the three senatorial districts of the State, which has aided unvarying evolution, and this is one of the undercurrents of the Enugu East organized rally.
The zoning of governorship arrangement in Enugu State began in 1999 with Chimaroke Nnamani from Enugu East zone, as democratically Governor, and after eight years, he was succeeded by Sullivan Chime from Enugu West, who in turn after eight years was succeeded by Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi from Enugu North zone.
Putting these into perspective, the rally will nudge the rounding up of the authority in sending forth surges for preparation on the next political life for the great people of Enugu State. Hence as the next gubernatorial election draws near the deliberation would ensue on who would be next in line? Who should take over the Lion Building?
Going into the political history of Enugu state and the rotation of power, the people of Enugu East have boldly stepped up to claim ownership of this cyclic rule in the State. Having successfully rotated, their turn is here again and they are ready to rule the “Coal City State”
This political blueprint has thus ignited peace, harmony and understanding among statesmen of the state. Despite this gentleman’s agreement that has existed for decades, some opposing thoughts have surfaced to curb the pattern that has borne the serenity of the state that has lingered thus far.
This is because the rotation formula has successfully run its cause and now juggernauts say “let the best man win” quitting the zoning principle. Accordingly, the zoning procedure is susceptible however that this system has helped with equilibrium in all political portfolios existing in the State.
This unequivocally indicates that the rotation formula of 22 years should cease. Considering how it has influenced the equilibrium of the political clime of the state in facilitating equity and fairness which spreads from top to grassroot.
The background of the rally termed “Mother of all Rallies” organized by the people of Enugu East is set to be politically motivated to pledge unalloyed support to the Governor to consolidate on peace, unity and progress in the state and to plead with other zones in the state to support Enugu East who is ripe and ready to produce the next Governor to mount the pedestal of Leadership. The rally thus becomes a way to dialogue their intentions what it takes to lead the state as it is due.
It also targets to showcase their keenness furnished with the prerequisite and great minds with a solid foundation to rule Enugu State into a thriving future for old and young alike.
The rally which is to take place at Okpara square request that the status quo be maintained. Despite the paradigm shift of political ideology or political party each individual belongs to.
With the rally, it breaks the barriers of disagreement and unites parity indicating that Enugu East is to produce the next governor and in line with that Enugu East has played its part as regards the advancement of the State. This dates back to some of its contributions in their ability to bring forth the first Executive Governor of old Anambra State, Chief Dr. Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo.
The zone has also produced former president of the Senate, Chief Sen. Kenneth Nnamani GCON, Amb. Gordi Agbo, former ambassador to Japan and the current ambassador to Poland, Amb. Sunday Chris Ugwu.
It will also reiterate that the people of Enugu East are integral part of Enugu state, powering every aspect of life and office in the state, from different sectors as education, to the civil service and even in science and technology.
Enugu East Senatorial Zone has formidable personalities, like Chief Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa, Engr. Prince Lawrence Eze, Chief Everest Nnaji (Odengene) Chief Peter Mba, Rt. Hon. Uchenna Edward Ubosi, Chief Uche Nnaji (Nwakibeya), Rt. Hon. Ofor Chukwuegbo, Hon. Chijioke Edeoga, among others, who eminently are qualified and ready to jet Enugu State into premium governance as governor.Enugu
Enugu East supports past and present government with unified governance, to ensure the well being of the state and as well as the enthronement of peace and harmony in the State. The zone acknowledges that the existing peace in Enugu State is due to the rotational principle that has thrived for decades in the State.
The Enugu State government should be commended for its ability to show stability in governance as evidenced by the fact that the state remains the only one in the country that has retained a particular political structure through the PDP in the three senatorial districts of the state.
In the House of Representatives, all the eight members are of the PDP; in State House of Assembly, all the 24 members are of the PDP, while all the governors that ruled the state from 1999 to date, were from the PDP.
Enugu East senatorial zone therefore, calls for support to His Execellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and beckons on the other senatorial zones in the Enugu to strive for peace in the state through the rally organized by indigenes of Enugu East senatorial zone.
