NIGERIANS BLAST RENO OMOKRI OVER OBI COMMENT, CALL HIM “POLITICAL PROSTITUTE”

NIGERIANS BLAST RENO OMOKRI OVER OBI COMMENT, CALL HIM “POLITICAL PROSTITUTE” Nigerians have criticised a former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, for accusing Peter Obi of gaslighting the North (Arewa) into protesting against the President Bola Tinubu-led federal government. While speaking in an interview on Channels TV, Omokri accused Obi of deceiving the North into protesting and destroying their region. Omokri described the protest as a deliberate ploy by Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election, to turn Northerners against themselves and against the federal government. According to Omokri, ”Arewa must face the fact that they were gaslighted. Not one of the protest organisers or promoters is from the core North. Not a single one. Yet, the killings, destruction of public property, and looting of private businesses took place entirely in Northern Nigeria.” He mentioned that ”This was a psychological operation against Arewa. To turn you against yourselves and the Federal Government. In less than twenty-four hours, billions of Naira worth of property were destroyed, and people were waving the Russian flags.” Omokri’s statement has attracted the wrath of Nigerians, with many accusing him of inciting ethnoreligious divide and violence in the country. Reacting to his accusations, an X user, simply identified as Wilson, said, ”Reno Omokri, this is a direct attempt to further incite ethnic violence and stroke regional tensions.” ”By framing the protests as a targeted attack on Arewa and implying that other regions are responsible, you’re using dangerous rhetoric that can have devastating consequences.” ”Reno omokri cannot be in the UK and be instigating violence between ethnic groups in Nigeria. He should be cautioned or move to Nigeria if he so loves this country more than those who live in it,” Christopher Nelson stated. E. Mbuyazi described Omokri as ”a paid agent of the ruling party. His mission is to attack Obi relentlessly. He does that even when it is very obvious that it is false. I never knew greed can make someone very desperate and shameless like this.” For Tony Oshiomogho, in his reaction, he described Omokri as a ”political prostitute” in his statement, which reads, ”I wonder what you are trying to gain with all your inciting posts, but very soon we will know who the true enemies of Nigeria are. Truth be told, sir, you will not be left out. Political prostitute.” Abdulyasar Faruk said, ”Baba, you’re heartless. You are just focussing on your Tunibu PR, disregarding the fact that Arewa is battling with insecurity, hunger, and lack of education, among others, that none of the southern states are suffering. If you won’t help us fight it, just stay idle and continue your PR.” ”Dear Sir Reno Omokri,” Peter Olufemi wrote. ”You may think you are getting back at Peter Obi, but you are simply creating division and preparing ground for ethnic cleansing of Igbos,” he added. ”Your post is dividing the country the more, and that is a great disservice to our nation. Remember, heaven is watching,” Olufemi added. According to Dr. Law, he mentioned that the self-acclaimed ”table shaker” works assiduously to create an ethnoreligious divide in the country. ”All you’ve been trying to do is cause division between the East and the North, the East and the West. Woe unto you that sows a seed of discord amongst brethren. You are such a vile thing filled with hatred, all for the purpose of monetary gain,” Dr. Law stated. Emmanuel Aboh urged the social media influencer to stop spreading ”hate speech” against Obi. ”Reno is just trying to incite ethnoreligious violence. I am a Northerner from Kogi State; I lived all my life in Kano until 2022, now residing in Abuja. Let it be known to you,…

POLICE, MILITARY DIDN’T FIRE LIVE BULLETS DURING PROTEST – IGP

POLICE, MILITARY DIDN’T FIRE LIVE BULLETS DURING PROTEST – IGP Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), says security operatives did not shoot live ammunition at protesters during the #EndBadGovernance demonstration. During a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, Egbetokun said security agencies did not deploy “excessive use of force” during the protest. The IGP said some security operatives were attacked during the protest, adding that police officers, who were injured, are currently in critical condition at the hospital. Egbetokun described the reports of police shooting at unarmed protesters as “fake news”. “The police and the military, and indeed no other security agency involved in the management of this protest, have deployed excessive use of force,” the IGP said. “Instead, what we had were attacks on security agents during the protest. From our record, there was no shooting incident by the police. “The police or military did not use any live ammunition in the management of these protests. “Instead, we have had cases where our officers were injured critically and are in critical condition in the hospital as we speak. “I will dismiss that as fake news and very wrong allegations. We didn’t use excessive force at all.” Nigerians have taken to the streets since August 1 in what they call the #EndBadGovernance protest, demanding solutions to the various challenges, including the rising cost of living and insecurity in the country. However, the protest has turned violent in some parts of the country, resulting in the looting and vandalisation of properties. The claim made by Egbetokun that security operatives did not shoot at protesters is different from what was experienced by TheCable during the coverage of the protest. On Saturday, TheCable’s journalists experienced how police officers shot live bullets at protesters at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja. Amnesty International Nigeria said over 10 protesters were killed by police in Kano during the protest.

Some embittered Nigerian youths have begun to attack properties owned by political leaders. In videos seen on X on Tuesday, some youths were seen burning a mansion built by a serving House of Representatives member, Nazifi Sani Gumel, representing Gumel/Maigatari/Sule Tankarkar/Gagarawa Federal Constituency. The youths accused the lawmaker of neglecting their constituency after his election 14 months ago during the last general elections. In a similar incident that happened in Yobe State, another set of angry youth attacked a current serving Senator’s House for allegedly siphoning public funds meant for the development of his district. Recall that President Bola Tinubu’s administration had also revealed that there were about 150 new computers and laptops inside the looted office of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Industrial Park in Kano. The newly constructed facility was vandalised by unknown people masquerading as protesters last Thursday. The hoodlums also looted a series of properties. However, a separate group of protesters, wearing green caps with the word “peace” engraved on them, intervened and chased away the perpetrators. Photographs obtained at the scene show numerous individuals making off with stolen items, including furniture, electronics, and equipment from the NCC office.

BREAKING: US ELECTION: KAMALA HARRIS PICKS MINNESOTA GOVERNOR AS RUNNING MATE

BREAKING; US ELECTION; KAMALA HARRIS PICKS MINNESOTA GOVERNOR AS RUNNING MATE United States Vice President, Kamala Harris has chosen Minnesota Governor, Tim Walz, as her running mate in the November Presidential election. Harris will face-off against Republican, ex-President Donald Trump. The 60-year-old Walz emerged as a dark horse contender and has now been picked over other high-profile names, especially Pennsylvania Governor, Josh Shapiro, and Arizona Senator, Mark Kelly, who dominated the early discussions. Over the last week, the Minnesota governor saw his profile rise considerably, especially after a viral interview in which he derided some Republicans as “weird”, a line of attack later adopted by national Democrats. Many also saw Walz as a safer choice for Harris due to his liberal bonafides and the fact that some of the other contenders had come under fire from certain segments of the left. Shapiro received heavy scrutiny recently over his response to pro-Palestinian protests that emerged in the wake of the Israel-Hamas war, over which both he and Kelly drew the ire of union leaders. Adding to Walz’s appeal is the fact that he hails from a Midwestern state that Trump has increasingly set his sights on flipping. Though Biden won Minnesota in 2020 by seven points, and no Republican has won the presidential race there in more than 50 years, Trump and his running mate JD Vance have stepped up their efforts to campaign in the state.

COURT RESTRICTS LAGOS PROTESTERS TO TWO AREAS

COURT RESTRICTS LAGOS PROTESTERS TO TWO AREAS Justice Sherifat Sonaike of the Lagos State High Court in Igbosere on Tuesday extended an earlier order restricting protesters in Lagos to the Freedom and Peace Parks in the Ojota and Ketu areas of the state. Sonaike made the order following an application by the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Lawal Pedro, SAN, for an extension order having complied with the pre-action protocols for preemptive remedies ordered last week by another vacation judge, Justice Emmanuel Ogundare. Pedro who was represented in court by the Director for Civil Litigations, Mr Hameed Oyenuga, told the court that the service of the earlier court order had been served on all the respondents in compliance with the pre-action protocols for pre-emptive reliefs sought by the AG against the representatives of the protesters. He argued that though the respondents in the suit were yet to respond to the application, there is a need to extend the earlier restriction order of the protest to two venues so that the state can continue to enjoy the relative peace being experienced despite the ongoing protests across the country. In her ruling, Justice Sonaike noted that she is satisfied with the AG’s compliance with the orders of Justice Ogundare and order that the restriction of the protests to Freedom and Peace Parks in the Ojota and Ketu areas of the state be extended until full compliance to the pre-action orders. “Pre-emptive relief, earlier granted, is hereby extended. “The lifespan of the intended order is hereby extended until there is full compliance with the protocol. Return date shall be 29th of August 2024”, Justice Sonaike said. Justice Ogundare had last week while ruling on a preemptive exparte application filed by Mr Pedro seeking to maintain and secure public safety and prevent irreparable loss of lives and property in the state during the period of the protests, and placed restrictions on the protesters. Listed in the application as co-defendants are Adamma Ukpabi and Tosin Harsogba (for Active Citizens Group); Juwon Sanyaolu and Hassan Soweto (for Take it Back Movement); Persons unknown and Commissioner of Police, Lagos State. While moving his application before the court, Mr Pedro had argued that as the Chief Law Officer of the State and have been privy to notices by different interests who are for and against the nationwide protest, there is the need to protect the critical infrastructures of the state and prevent an irreparable loss of lives and property as witnessed during the EndSARS protest in 2020.

BAUCHI GOVERNOR SLAMS TINUBU OVER BROADCAST, SAYS HE DID NOT CONSULT WITH GOVERNORS BEFORE THE SPEECH

BAUCHI GOVERNOR SLAMS TINUBU OVER BROADCAST, SAYS HE DID NOT CONSULT WITH GOVERNORS BEFORE THE SPEECH Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed has expressed his disappointment over President Bola Tinubu’s recent nationwide broadcast, stating that no consultation was made with state governors prior to the address. According to him, the President’s speech did not reflect the reality on ground, adding that there is a huge gap between the government and the governed in the country. The governor spoke while addressing journalists at the end of an emergency security council meeting held at the Government House, Bauchi, on Monday. The state government declared a 24-hour curfew in Katagum LGA on Monday following the escalation of crisis in Azare, headquarters of Katagum, where hoodlums took advantage of the protest to vandalise the Government House Annex and the house of a former deputy governor of the state, broke shops, and looted properties. Mohammed, when asked what he has to say about the President’s address, said, “I’m not a spokesperson of the Presidency but I certainly know that the speech of the President was very empty. “It has rather escalated the whole situation because he would have listened to the governors who are his first line of charge, first line of commanders at the sub-national level so that we can give him what is going on because we also listen to our local government chairmen. “All the President’s commanders, the Police commissioners, Brigade commanders, we are working together with all of them. “However, they went and spoke in a manner that has not shown empathy or sympathy to the youth.” Addressing the destruction of government properties in Katagum LGA, Mohammed said the state government had an extended emergency security council meeting that brought all the stakeholders, including security agencies, traditional institutions and religious groups to address the situation. He assured the people of the state that his administration will not allow the ongoing nationwide protest against bad governance, tagged #EndBadGovernmentinNigeria, to escalate. This is as he urged citizens of the state to remain law-abiding and exercise restraint by ensuring sustainable peace and stability in the state. According to him, the peaceful protest is a clear demonstration that government at all levels has failed in the discharge of constitutional and statutory responsibility. IF TINUBU IS ASKING FOR DIALOGUE, HE SHOULD ASSEMBLE CORPSES OF THOSE KILLED TO CONFERENCE TABLE – PROTESTER

IF TINUBU IS ASKING FOR DIALOGUE, HE SHOULD ASSEMBLE CORPSES OF THOSE KILLED TO CONFERENCE TABLE – PROTESTER The #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protesters have rejected President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s call for dialogue. The protesters also condemned the President’s nationwide address, labelling it an “exercise in deceit.” At a press conference in Ojota, Lagos, protest leader, Taiwo Hassan Soweto, expressed outrage over the president’s claims of sponsorship. He said that the protesters were not fools and were aware of their own struggles with hunger and hardship. Soweto dismissed the president’s offer of dialogue, citing the continued killings and arrests of protesters by security forces. He mentioned the abduction of Comrade Adaramoye Michael, National Coordinator of Take It Back, and two others by the DSS, whose whereabouts remain unknown. The protesters are demanding the immediate dismissal of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and all those responsible for the killings. Soweto sarcastically suggested that the president should assemble the corpses of the fallen heroes in a conference room for dialogue. He said, “The National Coordinator, Take It Back, Comrade Adaramoye Michael, was abducted alongside two others by the DSS, and we don’t know their whereabouts. So, a government that wants to dialogue and continues killing and arresting is not ready for dialogue. “If President Tinubu is ready for dialogue, he has the right to assemble the corpses of our fallen heroes in a conference room and dialogue with them.” Amid the ongoing hunger protest, the President had addressed the nation, saying his government would not allow individuals with political agenda to tear down the country. He said that Nigeria’s economy is recovering, and cautioned the protesters not to shut down its oxygen. But the protesters had returned to Ojota hours after the president’s address, saying that the President’s speech did not address the concerns of the protesters.
