Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, senator representing Kogi central, on Sunday led a motion ratifying the ward, local government, state and zonal congresses of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held nationwide.

The motion was adopted by delegates at the party’s national convention held in Abuja.

While moving the motion, Akpoti-Uduaghan said the ratification was necessary to strengthen the PDP’s democratic structures.

“Today’s decision is not merely procedural; it is a reaffirmation of our collective commitment to internal democracy, party discipline, and respect for due process,” she said.

“The PDP remains a party governed by rules, consultations, and the will of its members at all levels.”

The exercise followed resolutions of the party’s national executive committee (NEC) and recommendations of the national caretaker working committee (NCWC).

States where congresses were ratified include Abia, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Cross River, Edo, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Kwara, Kogi, Nasarawa, Ogun, Osun, Niger, Rivers, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The convention also approved repeat congresses conducted in Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Borno, Delta, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Ondo, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba, Yobe and Zamfara states.

Akpoti-Uduaghan urged delegates to view the ratification as a step towards strengthening grassroots participation within the party.

“Our strength as a political party lies in the credibility of our structures from the ward level upward,” she said.

“By ratifying these congresses, we are sending a clear message that the PDP is united, organised, and prepared for the democratic responsibilities ahead.”

Akpoti-Uduaghan also threw her weight behind Nyesom Wike, the FCT minister, describing him as the “national leader” of the PDP.

“Special recognition to our national leader of our great party, the PDP, His Excellency Nyesom Wike,” the lawmaker said.

Ayodele Fayose, former governor of Ekiti state, had earlier stated that Wike is the national leader of the PDP.

“Today, we are having our convention ably led by the national leader of our party, Nyesom Wike, and we made him so because of his contributions. He leads, and we follow,” Fayose said at the convention.
