The leadership of the National Assembly has called for the adoption of automatic tickets for serving lawmakers under the All Progressives Congress, arguing that such a move is critical to sustaining ongoing reforms championed by President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking at the party’s 4th Elective National Convention at Eagle Square, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas said automatic tickets would promote continuity and stability, allowing legislators to focus on delivering reforms without the distractions of internal party contests.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio aligned with the position, praising Tinubu’s leadership and the party’s growth.

Key Points:
Speaker Abbas argued that automatic tickets would strengthen the legislature and deepen governance during a period of major economic and institutional reforms.

Senate President Akpabio commended the convention’s organization and highlighted Tinubu’s achievements in education financing, agriculture, rail transport, and infrastructure.

The proposal sparked debate among stakeholders, with some cautioning against undermining internal democracy.
President Tinubu, while not directly addressing the proposal, emphasized party unity and discipline in his speech.

The convention observed a minute of silence for the late former President Muhammadu Buhari and other departed party members.

As the APC debates automatic tickets for lawmakers, the party faces a delicate balance between ensuring legislative continuity and preserving internal democratic processes ahead of the 2027 elections.
