Bishop Sarah Mullally DBE has become the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury, at her Confirmation of Election at St Paul’s Cathedral. She is the first woman to hold the office in its 1,400-year history.

Henry Ndukuba, the archbishop of the Church of Nigeria, said it was insensitive “to the conviction of the majority of Anglicans who are unable to embrace female headship in the episcopate”.
