EZEAGU UNION MAKES DEBUT IN GRAND STYLE

It was a glorious occasion as Ezeagu Union (EU), comprising sons and daughters of Ezeagu local government area with intellectual capacity and professional competence in their various fields, makes its debut in grand style.

The outing of the Union started at Aguobu Owa, headquarters of Ezeagu Local Government, with a Holy Mass co-celebrated by the Vice Chancellor, Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, Rev. Father Professor Christian Anieke, and the Dean, Aguobu Owa Deanery, Catholic Diocese of Enugu, Rev. Father Victor Ogbogu Ubaka.

After the Holy Mass, came the unveiling of the Union’s Blue Print, a compedium for the development of Ezeagu Local Government Area.

The blue print, segmented into nine sections called directorates, namely Illumination, Culture and Tourism, Gender and Vulnerable Affairs, Education, Health, Agriculture, Entrepreneurship, Good Governance and Empowerment, as well as Youth and Sports, comprehensively articulated various developmental challenges confronting Ezeagu Local Government Area and proferred the way forward.

The Chairman of Ezeagu Local Government Council, Hon. Chukwudi Ozoeluba, represented by the Secretary of the Council, was the chief host at the occasion.

Later, at an Award Night, held in Enugu, and chaired by the globally acclaimed law teacher and university administrator, Professor Christian Nwachukwu Okeke, some indigenes of the local government area, both living and dead, who excelled in their various callings in life, were given honours award.

The Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Rev. Father Professor Christian Anieke, who was the keynote speaker at the occasion, highlighted some unique peculiarities or characteristics of Ezeagu people.

According to him, Ezeagu is the only local government whose population is virtually homogeneous in character, since majority of the people trace their origin to one great ancestors called Ezeagu Igbudu.

For instance, Every Ezeagu male folk, no matter his status or calling in life, identifies and calls each other “Monwu Shinne” (Big Spirit manifest), while Ezeagu people enjoy a particular soup ingredient, called Mpoto (dried cocoyam leaves).

Prof. Anieke counselled that these peculiarities of the people should be a propeller for development as they could be carefully harnessed and nurtured for the betterment of the people of the local government area.

He commended members of Ezeagu Union for coming up with the initiative of evolving a blue print for the development of Ezeagu, and called on all patriotic sons and daughters of the area, both at home and in the diaspora, to support the activities of Ezeagu Union.

The leader of the group, Ozo Arc. Denis Onyebuchi, explained that Ezeagu Union is a non-political voluntary association of Ezeagu men and women who were determined to give the local government a facelift.
